Avi and LaLa's Visit - Including Fourth of July

We met CoCo and Avi at the car dealership, and they pulled up in style! A convertible for Mira to see and sit in! She thought it was super-cool to watch the top go up! She's a little obsessed with convertibles right now...

We spent most of Tuesday at the Dallas Museum of Art...

Avi got a tattoo...

Mira met Arturo, the museum's mascot.

They decorated their own bandanas. Mira had her first hand at using a stencil - it went well. She liked it and did a great job!

They created works of art using reflective and transparent materials. Avi made a clock titled "Tick Tock" and Mira's was called "A Fence" They both did so great! We hung these there at the museum.

They sketched a work of art in the gallery.

Working hard...

Avi did a great job!!

We also did a scavenger hunt through the gallery, listened to stories and songs, went on a tour, and did solar art (but the paper was no good, so we tried again at home later in the week). What a fun, full day!! And it was all FREE! Woo HOO!

That evening, the girls made their Fourth of July tee shirts!

Used freezer paper to make stencils. You iron it on, then peel it off after the paint is dry! Works beautifully!

The next day was Independence Day! We started the celebration at the parade...

We had to walk a little ways to get to our great spot.

We met up with our friends, Fred, Cole, and Kirsten (didn't get a picture of her...)

Waving flags and the star spangled wands we made.

Cute hair, if I do say so myself! :)

Showing off their handmade tees.

We took along some red, white, and blue pancakes - that's what Mira is cramming into her mouth!

Cole had a cool shirt, too!! So glad we found them at the parade!

After the parade, we did a little letterboxing; we only found two out of the five that we searched for! Not the best success rate, but that's how it goes with letterboxing. It was still fun!
In our search for LB's, we learned that Conrad Hilton is buried in Dallas, along with the creator of El Fenix and El Chico's.

Back home for lunch and some red, white, and blue drinks!

Then Kenny and the girls went to the rec center to swim, and they played a little air hockey while they were at it. Meanwhile, I gathered up some last minute items for the fireworks show.

We had a great time at the fireworks. We met up with our friends once again, and arrived early to secure some prime real estate! Kirsten brought tons of activities and food and drinks, so we were well-prepared for the long wait. The kids had a ball the whole time!

Bubbles!

Check out the giant bag of popcorn that Kirsten brought! Mira was in heaven! We put away a LOT of popcorn that evening!

The Ice Cream Man is a genius...

Poppers!

Finally, it's time!!!

The grand finale! Now, into PJ's and home!!!

The next day, we went to a show at the mall...it seemed like it would be fun, but we ended up "ducking" out of the Chicken Man show early - he wasn't that entertaining. But, we got chicken hats and free Chick-fil-A kids' meals out of it! We tossed the chicken nuggets (even Avi didn't want them), but enjoyed the applesauce, apple juice, and books that came in them!

Playing dress up...Avi was reluctant to get in the picture.

"What's Avi doing, Momma?" (She's hiding from the camera.)

"Why?" (Because she doesn't want her picture taken.)

"Well, you can take MY picture!! I'll pose for you!" (Thanks!)

"Okay...but only my face!"

We got the solar paper and made some cool pictures with that. Then we did painting with puff-able paint! It was pretty fun! I couldn't resist making a few! You paint with it, then microwave it to make it puff!
Avi's Solar Art

We went to story time at the Plano Inter-railway Museum. That was pretty cool. I didn't get many pictures of the inside, but Avi and I had fun creating circuits and generating electricity! Then, we got to go look inside an old train car which used to be a mail car. We had a private tour! Very cool!

All ABOARD!

Avi was our conductor.

They have ads from the era that the train was in use - some of the products are still around today. Notice Hitler here on the Burma Shave ad...

And this was totally PC....for that time. It's wrong on so many levels!

What a fun-filled week! On Saturday, we traded Avi for LaLa who will also spend a few days here. So far, we have spent most of our time getting re-acquainted with the Wii.

Sunday morning, Kenny and I picked over 40 pounds of peaches off the tree in our back yard. We didn't get finished before we had to stop and get ready for church. We took a whole basket to share. At church, LaLa stayed and helped out in Mira's Pre-K class while Kenny and I taught the K-2nd graders. I love teaching Sunday school; the kids at our church are so smart and sweet and fun! After church, I got to hold our Religious Education Director's 3-month old baby for nearly 20 minutes, and LaLa made a new friend while Kenny and Mira hung out at the playground. So, we all enjoyed the morning very much. Afterwards, we had lunch at Pizza by Marco's - pretty tasty. That afternoon and evening, we played Wii almost non-stop.

This morning, after I did some "work" related to our apartment acquisition, LaLa, Mira, and I went to the library while Kenny got some work done at home. Then we came home, had lunch, and all took turns reading to Mira and playing the Wii some more.

We plan on going to story time at Barnes & Noble in the morning, and taking a tour of UNT's campus on Wednesday. I will update the blog if I have pics to add...
