Christmas in Roseland

We joined the Montgomery's on a tour of Roseland (local rose garden) which gets all lit up for the holidays.

Mira really enjoyed gazing at the lights & Mason was perfectly chilled out, as usual, while we strolled through the gardens.

I know I've said it before...

Mira's getting so big and changing so much!!

She is so alert and actually responding to her environment so much (as seen in the video below). She is so smiley these days!! These big gumey grins melt our hearts, for sure!

I wasn't sure how deliberate they were until just about a half hour ago. I was nursing her, but she had gotten to the point of playing, so I started to play back. I tickled her lips and she smiled so big! I did it again and again - it got a huge grin EIGHT times, so I know they were real smiles and not just "gas grins."

Also, Friday, she rolled from her tummy to her back! I tried desperately to catch it on video, but it was, of course, the one time I didn't have the camera rolling, and all I got was her on her back - mad! =) She was in no mood for tummy time!! I'm sure it probably won't happen again for a while, but I'll have the camera ready any time we do tummy time!

She does little baby leg extensions and sort of "stands up" if you put her feet on your lap while she leans against your chest. I'm amazed at her strength!

I get sort of sad when I think about how fast she'll grow up, but it's so exciting and joyous when it actually happens! Every stage is so great! I love her being small, squishy, and smelly-good, but I am so excited about the idea of her smiling and laughing at the silly things her daddy will do to get a reaction!

And just look how big she is these days - she fits in her 3 month clothes and here she is wearing shoes for the very first time!

1 Month Well Baby

Today was Mira's 1 month check-up. She "passed" with flying colors. The nurse practitioner and doctor were both very impressed with how alert she was and how well she followed Kenny & I with her eyes while holding her head up!

She did get one shot - the second round of Hep B (she got the first in the hospital at birth). She wailed briefly & I joined her, of course. Unfortunately, next time will be worse - she gets four shots then.

She weighed in at 10 pounds 5 ounces (90th percentile) and measured 21 inches (50th percentile).

Getting fussed at - gotta go!

Three Week Update

Well, not too much has happened in the past week...

We are doing great, and Mira continues to amaze us. She is doing well with nursing, sleeping at night (usually for 4-5 hour intervals), holding her head up high, and has taken to a bottle very well, too.

We've been buzzing around with Mira in tow - Christmas shopping, going to lunch, and other errands. This week, Kenny starts a new indoor soccer season, and Mira and Mommy will be there to cheer him on!!

We put up the Christmas tree this past weekend and Mira was dazzled by the lights - she stared for quite some time! It rivaled her interest in ceiling fans!

We go back to the doctor next week - can't believe she'll be a month old!!! Holy Cow!!!

Two Weeks Old!

So, Mira is 2 weeks old today, and we had our first doctor's appointment. I was none too pleased with the whole experience...the staff is not the warmest and I didn't feel like we were given a very thorough visit. Plus, the office location is moving to Haughton; part of the reason we chose this doctor was convenience/location.

Mira was 9 pounds 3 ounces - back at birth weight, so that was good. They didn't measure her length or head circumference (one of my many complaints). We will measure her ourselves tonight.

After her check-up, we had to go to the lab and get her blood taken again for the PKU screening. Apparently, it wasn't done well in the hospital at her birth, so they needed another sample. This involved pricking and milking her heel for what seemed like an hour! Of course, she and I both cried. I wasn't expecting tears today - we weren't supposed to do that until next visit! :(

We plan on switching pediatricians before her next visit. We hope to see the doctor that was present when she was born. He was great. He took his time with us and seemed genuine and patient. Hopefully, we will have better luck at his office.

There has been a little sleep deprivation, but, honestly, it hasn't been that bad at all. And, now, she is getting so good at falling back to sleep at night after I nurse. She usually goes 3-4 hours at a time at night, so that's really great, too. A couple of nights ago, she slept 7 1/2 hours! It scared us silly! We were taking her temperature and reading all our parenting books to try and see if that was okay! Apparently, she's fine! =)

For about the first week, Grandma Sheila and Papanui were here to give us a hand. It was so great to have help with dishes, cooking, holding Mira, walking the pups, etc. etc!! It would have been really tough without them!

Mira has been doing great with the nursing from day one, but I've had some trouble with it here and there. Having to use shields has been a big inconvenience and extreme pain has made nursing seem like a chore at times. It was getting pretty frustrating, since I want to enjoy nursing, not cringe every two hours when she gets hungry!

But, I'm getting much better. We went and saw our lactation consultant and got a few pointers. Plus, today, I feel like it just "clicked." We nursed "in public" for the first time (in a fitting room at Toys 'R Us). We totally winged it sans Boppy and sans nipple shield!!! It was very liberating! =) Nursing has been going great the rest of the day. I'm feeling very optimistic about it, and I'm glad nursing has regained its convenience factor!

All in all, the past two weeks have been amazing. I can't imagine how many hours I have just sat and stared at our beautiful daughter. I gaze at her with tears of joy in my eyes - I simply can't believe we created such a perfect little person to share our lives with.

Kenny has already proven himself to be such a wonderful father, just like I knew he would be. And, of course, he continues to be the best husband you could ask for. He has taken care of both of us and still remembered to love on the puppies. He's pretty awesome! I can't imagine how someone could handle a new baby without such a great guy by your side, let alone having no one.

I am so blessed.

Well, I'll try and get some photos up and start keeping the blog updated more often from now on.

We're new to this blog site, so it may be slow going at first, but I'm sure we'll have it all up and running soon with photos, videos, etc.

Rainy day!

It is Black Friday today. Teresa, Mirabelle and I attempted to visit Toys R Us mid-morning to return a few items and pick up some others. There was a 2 hour wait to check out! Granted this is the only Toys R Us in the Ark La Tex area, but man what a way to spend your Friday off??? (No thanks!)
Mira is about a week and a half old today and already has pretty good neck control. She is very attentive and beautiful!
We are getting loads of rain today and it looks like it will carry on into Saturday. Here in NW Louisiana it doesn't take all that much rain to make standing water, so thank goodness for the 4wd! :) I better be off. I sense there is a diaper to change...
