Happy Birthday/Grandparent's Day/Anniversary!!!!

Jim and Sheila just celebrated their 40th Wedding Anniversary! We wanted to do something special for them, so we planned a little surprise celebration. We also celebrated Sheila's birthday (which is only two days before their wedding date) and Grandparent's Day (which fell on the same day as their anniversary this year).

Prior to the evening of the celebration, Kenny, Kara, Kellen, Mira, and I all worked together to make a great DVD for them. It included a music video (the abridged version of their married lives set to the tune of "Still the One" by Orleans); an interview with Mira on the topic of marriage (lots of nuggets of wisdom there); and the out-takes from the music video (my favorite part).

We also assembled an album for them which included some facts about the year 1972 and a collection of letters, poems, drawings, and photos that were sent from friends and family, near and far. It was awesome receiving all the well-wishes and memories that everyone mailed back!

The decor revolved around their world travels, so we had leis, pyramids, and koalas all mixed together!! The Billboard Top 20 from 1972 played in the background.

The menu included a cake that was half raspberry chocolate birthday cake AND half white wedding cake!

I made Jim & Sheila a frame with a fun quote about grandparents and added a picture of the three of them. They are wonderful grandparents; Mira adores them as much as they adore her!

Mira also made PapaNui and Sheesa each a recordable book - so, they can listen to her sweet 3 year-old voice read these books about her grandma and grandpa for years to come!

I think everyone enjoyed the evening immensely, and I hope Jim & Sheila know just how much we all love, appreciate, and admire them!!
